Dred “Perky” Scott Quintet

Bio – The Rev. Dr. Dred “Perky” Scott:

Dred “Perky” Scott comes from a distinguished Harrisburg family. He has performed here off and on beginning at age 11 as “Little Perky Wonder”. He specialized in ‘James Brown’ with Curley and the Grand Prixs. He has played with numerous local groups such as the El Dantes (W/Cedric Lawson) and the Emperors, a very notable Harrisburg group who had a hit record, “Karate” (Of special note…over five (5) members of that group are now ordained clergy).

He played with Cedric Lawson in Boston when Lawson attended Berkley School of music. He was a musician (Bass) w/Isaac Hayes for a summer in the early 70’s. As a jazz musician/artist in the region he is widely known and acclaimed as one of the finest entertainers ever to come out of this area. He has honed his chops with every significant musician to come in and out of the area over the last 50 years.  Sam Banks, Cedric Lawson, Steve Rudolph, Ronnie Waters, and Jimmy Wood to name a few. While attending law school in Pittsburgh he gigged with Dr. Nathan Davis and the University of Pittsburgh Jazz Band. He worked with Jazz greats, Marcus Belgrade, Gerri Allen, Kenny Barron and Max Roach, Roger Humphries, Dwayne Dolphin, and John ‘Squirrel” Mosley during that time. He was the architect of the “Jazz in the Sanctuary” series that was a very popular Jazz medium for many years in the area.

A call to the ministry moved him to a new level on expression. He continues to use the gifts God has given him in spreading His Word to the communities he serves. He embarked on a fully funded “Jazz in the Sanctuary” year long series in Baltimore MD beginning in mid-April 2001. The series continues and performs at various church venues throughout the region. In 2004 Dred released a Jazz standards CD “Live At The Whittaker Center…NINE”, with Steve Rudolph, Roger Humphries and Dwayne Dolphin. He has been performing with a new group “Jazz in the Sanctuary” and offers a monthly JESUS and Jazz worship at the church. The group travels extensively throughout the Mid Atlantic region at churches and other venues. For over twenty five years he has been MC and Performer at the “World’s Greatest Jazz Festival”, the Rehoboth Beach Autumn Jazz Festival; hosting an amazing array of the best ‘smooth” and contemporary Jazz artist on the scene…you name them the festival has had them.

He recently co-authored his first book…”Pittsburgh JESUS” available on Amazon and all major Booksellers.
