Amina Scott – Bio
Amina Scott, born and raised in Oakland, CA, is an upright and electric bassist, composer, and arranger. Her interest in music began at an early age when her grandmother began giving her piano lessons. From then, her love and passion for music has yet to cease, playing electric bass at the age of twelve and was soon playing gigs with a local band in Oakland. Graduating in May 2016, Amina studied at Loyola University New Orleans under Allen Nisbet, Ed Wise, Dave Anderson, & Roland Guerin. In 2017, she will be attending Florida State University studying under Rodney Jordan.
Now relocated to New Orleans, LA has performed with various artists including Steve Turre, Wessell “Warm Daddy” Anderson, Nicholas Payton, David Murray, Jamison Ross, Nnenna Freelon, Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah, and more. She has also performed with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra (Tallahassee, FL) and the Albany Symphony Orchestra (Albany, GA) She currently plays with The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra led by Adonis Rose, leads her own quintet, as well as co-leading her bands, Noruz and the improvised chamber music group Outer Core.
Florida State University Jazz Combo
Though based in Tallahassee, Fl, the Florida State University Jazz Combo combines various influences from all over the U.S. Under the direction of bassist and Florida State University professor Rodney Jordan, this exciting group aims to exemplify and bridge the past, present, and future of jazz music. This group will feature Blake Bennett on trumpet, Kai Hammond on tenor sax, Nicholas Gulyamov on alto sax, Amina Scott and Mikailo Kasha on bass, and Mason Margut on piano.
